Chelsea Football Club announced on Tuesday that captain Cesar Azpilicueta has been discharged from hospital and is recovering well after being hit in the head during a Premier League match.
Azpilicueta left the stadium on a stretcher, wearing a neck brace and an oxygen mask after play was stopped for 10 minutes after being punched in the face by Southampton player Seiko Mara last Saturday as Chelsea lost 1-0.
Chelsea have reported that Azpilicueta has suffered a concussion.
“The club’s medical team is closely monitoring Cesar’s condition and following important concussion protocols to keep him safe,” Chelsea said.
Azpilicueta, 33, joined Chelsea in 2012 and helped the club win two English Premier League and Champions League titles in 2021 and was named captain in 2019.
