Chelsea about to sign Enzo Fernandez from Benfica?

Chelsea are close to completing the signing of Enzo Fernandez from Benfica in the January transfer window, second 90 minutes. The report said the Premier League giants are on the verge of reaching an agreement with the Portuguese powerhouse on the 21-year-old Argentina national team midfielder, who won the 2022 Qatar World Cup.

Benfica initially wanted Fernandez’s release clause of €120 million to be paid in full by Chelsea for a deal to be finalised. However, the Portuguese club will now accept payments in several installments, but totaling €130m. If the transfer goes through, Fernandez will become the fourth most expensive player of all time and end up being Chelsea’s most expensive signing.

Chelsea are currently ninth in the Premier League table with 25 points from 16 games, seven points behind fourth-placed Manchester United. Meanwhile, Benfica currently top the table in the Portuguese Primeira Liga on 37 points from 14 games, five points clear of second-placed FC Porto.
