Manuel Neuer was full of praise for Thomas Muller and his “weird” celebrations after the Bayern Munich forward scored a major goal in a 3-1 win at Greuther Furth.
Robert Lewandowski’s long streak of goals ended in 15 consecutive Bundesliga games – one short of Gerd Muller’s record – but the champions were three points away from Wolfsburg.
There are now 40 goals in their last eight games for the ruthless Bayern, who led 2-0 thanks to excellent shots from Muller and Kimmich at half-time.
Benjamin Pavard was ordered to march for a professional foul on Jeremy Dudziak early in the second half, but an own goal from Sebastian Griesbeck extended their lead.
Cedric Itten’s header in the final stages was too little, too late for bottom-up Furth in the Bavarian derby at Sportpark Ronhof on Friday.
Muller, who also scored the first goal in recent wins over Barcelona and Hertha Berlin, is now on 218 goals for Bayern, one more than Karl-Heinz Rummenigge.
Neuer was delighted for his longtime teammate, though he joked that the striker could be called up for a meeting with the former Bayern CEO after taking his place on the all-time list.

“He doesn’t get tired and has been around for a long time,” Neuer said, according to the Bayern website.
“I have accompanied him for long stretches of this time, and I am always happy with every goal and celebration from Thomas, which at times seem a little strange to him.
“I am particularly happy for him personally, because we have been playing together for a long time, but I think he will have to report to Kalle [Rummenigge] today.”
Bayern, who face Dynamo Kyiv in the Champions League next Wednesday, started the season with eight straight wins under the leadership of Julian Nagelsmann.
Neuer himself added: “It looks pretty good. We scored three goals and showed a good attitude. In the first half we didn’t do enough when we had space. We have wasted many opportunities. This is annoying.
“Despite being one less man, we made it 3-0, which gives you a good feeling. Then we got better between the lines, but at times we were too sloppy.
“He’s really picky, but we can still play smoother football. We are happy with how it is going, but we always have to take the next step and improve. “
