Bundesliga News: Bayern hat-trick hero Lewandowski was hailed as a great Bundesliga champion by Nagelsmann

Bayern Munich manager Julian Nagelsmann praised Robert Lewandowski, calling him a Bundesliga greats after his hat-trick in the 5-0 defeat to Hertha Berlin.

Lewandowski was in ruthless form on Saturday, scoring three goals to lead Bayern to a landslide home win against Hertha.

The Polish international, who has been linked to an away match, scored in his 13th consecutive Bundesliga match – only the late Gerd Muller (16, 1969-70) found the net in Lewandowski’s multiple consecutive league games.

Lewandowski surpassed 300 goals for Bayern, reaching 301 in his 333rd appearance with the German giants. It’s a score only surpassed by Muller (566 goals in 607 games) in the club’s history.

The 33-year-old striker (15) is second on the list of hat-trick scorers, behind only Muller (32).

“He is definitely one of the best in Bundesliga history,” Nagelsmann told reporters after the match.

“You should face a lot of them, the championship has been around for a while. But he is very consistent, he has a great ability to get between the lines in possession of the ball. This is what makes it difficult to catch.

“He is not just one who waits for the balls forward, participates in the game and creates a numerical advantage in the area. It is really dangerous because it can end very well with all parts of the body ”.

“He does it with quality and has great character. If you win as much as he did in the last couple of years and are still hungry from the first game, if you have these transfer rumors floating around you, which is normal for him, and then he still performs as hungry as he is, this is extraordinary.

“No question. He’s probably the top of the table.”

Young sensational German international Jamal Musiala also scored for Bayern after Thomas Muller opened the scoring in six minutes against Hertha.

On 18-year-old Musiala, Nagelsmann added: “The best thing is his modesty and humility. He’s not one who over-celebrates his performances, but he wants to move on. I think this is a prerequisite for a great career if you keep that modesty.

“He has incredible one-on-one qualities and a good finish. This is difficult to find in today’s youth teams: players with a certain field mentality. He has it and I don’t want him to lose it, but my biggest task will be to make him keep it. “

Bayern are unbeaten at home in 29 Bundesliga games (W24, D5) – since moving to Allianz Arena in 2005, the club have only had a longest unbeaten streak in top-flight home games since March 2016 to April 2018 (38 matches).
