Barcelona Signs Ronaldinho’s Son, Hoping for Greatness to Be Inherited

Barcelona gave Joao Mendes the chance to succeed at the Camp Nou, just as his father Ronaldinho had risen to superstar status at the club.

On Thursday, 18-year-old Mendez signed with Barcelona’s youth academy and the young striker is hopeful of success.

Mendes was hired after a trial period, as he had previously played at junior level in a number of Brazilian clubs.

In all competitions, Ronaldinho scored 98 goals in 207 games for Barcelona over a five-year period from 2003 to 2008.

He was recruited in a near-finished article already shone for Paris Saint-Germain and Brazil and took his game to the next level, helping Barcelona win two La Liga titles and the Champions League.

While thousands of people came to greet Ronaldinho in 2003, the signing of his son was a low-profile affair as he was joined by the club’s youth football director Joan Soler Ferre to ignore the completion of the deal.
