Alonso, 32, who has won 9 internationals, joined the Catalan club in September last year on a free transfer following his Chelsea career since 2016.
Alonso took part in 17 matches with Barcelona under the guidance of Javi Hernandez, the coach of the blue garnets, who stated his desire for the player to remain at Spotify’s Camp Nou stadium.
He had previously told the Spanish coach about Alonso, saying: “He has adapted very well in the dressing room. He’s a great guy.”
