Atlanta United climbed to third in the MLS Eastern Conference after Maren Haile-Selassie’s own goal in the 99th minute helped them to a 2-1 home win over the Chicago Fire on Sunday.
Chicago thought they had saved a point from substitute Kacper Przybylko’s strike in the 90th minute, but there should have been drama in the last minute of the nine added minutes.
Machop Chol glanced at Brooks Lennon’s corner as Juanjo Purata’s shot bounced off Haile Selassie’s back and went over the goal line. The win meant Atlanta extended their unbeaten streak to four games.
Georgios Giakumakis gave Atlanta the lead in the 13th minute with a strike on Lennon.
But Chicago restored the game from a Przybylko shot after being thwarted by his first try, only for the hosts to discover a late winner.
