Competition: Serie A
Market: Atalanta victory
Chances: 4/11 @888sport
Seeking to expand their European midweek activity, Atalanta will meet Spezia at the Geviss Stadium on Wednesday night.
Starting with the hosts, last seen at the weekend pulling out a stunning 2-1 victory away in Turin, Atalanta are enjoying an attractive end to the season. While Gian Piero Gasperini’s side may have suffered a shock 2-0 defeat at the hands of Bologna on April 8, La Dea proved it was nothing more than a minor mistake. Having set up a real Serie A marker earlier this month as they stormed their way to a 3-1 home game against Roma, fans at Geviss Stadium are desperate to see their team return to the Champions League in 2023. Marking their return from the March international break with a 3-1 away win over Cremonese, Atalanta should smell the chance to make another top-flight statement on Wednesday night. With a spectacular 5-2 win when they welcomed La Spezia to Bergamo for the Coppa Italia decider on January 19, Gasperini is looking forward to a rerun here.
As for the away side, last seen putting on another nightmarish performance over the weekend as they lost 2-0 at home against Monza, Spezia found themselves at the center of yet another Serie A relegation. Continuing to show a number of problems on both sides of the March international break , the dismal team of Leonardo Semplici suddenly find themselves in the top three of the worst rivals in the past few weeks. After suffering the usual 3-0 home win against Lazio on 14 April, the Little Eagles have now won just one win in any of their last 15 consecutive matches. With that sad run that began in mid-January, Semplici’s team will know they’re in for a real test here. Hurt by this 5-2 defeat as they travel to the Geviss Stadium for their Coppa Italia match in January, it should also be noted that Spezia has failed to score a single win against Wednesday hosts from their previous seven attempts.
