Arsenal have long wanted to join their ranks as a central midfielder. Last summer they reportedly failed in a very late attempt to draft Douglas Louis from Aston Villa and were said to be heavily interested in Brighton Moises Caicedo in January but like Villa before, the Seagulls were not interested in sale.
Another name sometimes mentioned in connection with the Gunners is West Ham star Declan Rice, and according to The Times, Arsenal have made England their top priority in the transfer market this summer.
Rice’s contract with the Hammers runs until the summer of 2024, and the club has the option to extend it unilaterally for another 12 months. He has previously been linked with Chelsea and Manchester United, but their respective signings of Enzo Fernandez and Casemiro in the last two windows make a resurgence of interest in the 24-year-old club highly unlikely.
