Are we expecting a big January transfer window for Graham Potter & Chelsea?

While Chelsea may have smelled a chance to kick off the New Year on Sunday afternoon, the Blues failed again as they had to settle for a 1-1 draw at Nottingham Forest.

When some leftists were shocked in September when it was announced that Graham Potter would replace Thomas Tuchel at Stamford Bridge, the former Brighton boss is having a difficult start to life in west London.

While the Blues could mark their comeback after the World Cup break with a 2-0 home win over Bournemouth, this is Chelsea’s only Premier League win in their last seven attempts.

Now that they face an uphill battle to finish in the top four this season, it has been speculated that the former European champions could face a hectic January transfer window.

Ahead of what looks to be a hugely important month for the London giants, we’ve taken a look at a few stars who have been linked to a move to Stamford Bridge.

    Enzo Fernandez – Benfica.

While Lionel Messi may have stole most of the headlines in Qatar this winter when Argentina claimed the third world crown, Enzo Fernandez just continues to receive a string of applause from across Europe.

Having played in the Middle East and won the title of best young player in the World Cup, the 21-year-old is certainly in high demand when the window is open again.

However, with Potter’s team taking an aggressive stance in January, the Blues were in a winning position to secure Fernandez’s signature after several discussions with Benfica about what could be a blockbuster deal.

While the Portuguese giants could value their talisman in the region of £106m, the Premier League team is not being delayed and it looks like they are closing in on a potential deal.

With daily mail while reporting over the weekend that Chelsea were set to engage in important mid-week talks to push through a deal, that post also suggested that Fernandez was interested in a move to Stamford Bridge this month.

    Benoit Badiashile – AS Monaco

With Wesley Fofana suffering yet another injury during the World Cup holiday break, it’s no secret that Chelsea are looking to bolster their defense this month.

As former Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly continues to fight for his life in the Premier League, Athletic On Sunday, it was reported that the Blues had completed a deal for another centre-back.

Continuing to show some extended defensive issues this season, it looks like the Potter team are poised to complete a deal worth around £33m for Monaco’s Benoît Badiashile.

As the 21-year-old has received much praise from across Ligue 1 after becoming an important part of Monaco’s European side, Badiashile also agreed on personal terms for what would be a long-term contract in west London.

His medical at Stamford Bridge is expected to be completed within the next few days and the two-cap France international appears to be an alternative to RB Leipzig’s Josko Guardiol.

At 6ft 4in and having gained a reputation in France for his ball-playing qualities, Potter will be hoping Badiasheel can help plug his holey defense.

    Joao Felix – Atletico Madrid

Although Chelsea could only record a single clean sheet in any of their previous six Premier League fixtures, the former European champions have also struggled to find stability in the final third.

With ex-Arsenal skipper Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang unable to cement his place in Potter’s plans after returning to London, it looks like the Blues are interested in adding another attacking option in January.

While Joao Felix may have arrived at Spanish giants Atlético Madrid back in July 2019 for a record £113m, it looks like the 23-year-old is likely to move this month.

With both Atlético and Felix making it clear in recent weeks that the Portugal international is looking for new adventures outside the Spanish capital, Chelsea have become the latest Premier League side to throw their hat in the ring.

Despite a potential battle with Manchester United, Mirror It was reported last week that Potter is interested in getting either a loan or a permanent deal in January.
