Roma are close to signing Olympique Lyon’s Houssem Aouar as a free agent at the end of the season, according to Fabrizio Romano.
Aouar is a graduate of the Lyon academy and has never played for any other club. However, a number of clubs have shown interest in his services in the past, most notably Arsenal, and with his contract coming to an end this summer, it looks like he is finally about to leave his boyhood club. He reportedly wanted to join the Gunners a few years ago, but the two clubs couldn’t agree on a transfer fee.
The central midfielder, who can also play 10th behind the striker, has made 231 appearances for Lyon in all competitions, scoring 41 goals and providing 36 assists. His only appearance for France to date came in October 2020.
Apparently, an agreement in principle between Roma and the 24-year-old footballer has been reached, and a five-year contract is expected to be signed in the coming days.
