Anthony Gordon insists on leaving Everton over Newcastle ties

Everton starter Anthony Gordon did not show up for training this weekend and according to Fabrizio Romano he will be pushing to leave the club before the transfer window closes next week. Newcastle are reportedly interested in his services as they look to cement their place in the top four in the Premier League.

Just last month, Frank Lampard talked about the 21-year-old forward being on the verge of signing a new contract, but a lot has changed at Everton since then, including Lampard losing his job as the Toffees continue their streak of extremely poor results and appear ready for a desperate battle to avoid relegation. There were even rumors that owner Farhad Moshiri was ready to sell the club for any amount in excess of £500 million, but the British-Iranian businessman vehemently denies there is any truth to it.

Gordon’s decision to try to leave apparently only adds to the growing list of problems at the club, perhaps chief among them the need to appoint a new manager as soon as possible. Reports name former Burnley boss Sean Dyche as a prime candidate for the job.
