The news that “Al-Nasr Club has been invited to participate in the European Champions League” returned to the Saudi Arabian sports street after it was reported by international media.
On Tuesday evening, Italian newspaper Sport Mediaset published news that the European Football Association was preparing an invitation to Al-Nasr to participate in the 2024-2025 Champions League.
The news stated that the Continental Union had chosen Al-Alami as one of the 3 most famous clubs in the world, with Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo among its ranks.
The Italian newspaper stressed that Al-Nasr must apply financial fair play standards stipulated by European Union rules to be able to participate in the continental competition.
In fact, the news is published by the Sport Mediaset newspaper, its primary source is Saudi sports journalist Ali Al-Harbi.
Al-Harbi mentioned this information again on Tuesday when he wrote through his account on the X platform: “I mentioned this (two days ago) … The European Union wants to extend an invitation to the Saudi Al-Nasr Club.” to take part in the European Champions League in 2024.”
In turn, sports journalist Abdullah Al-Takil reacted to the spread of news about the possibility of Al-Nasr’s first football team participating in the European Champions League.
Al-Takil said today on his X platform account: “This news is not true. International newspapers publish a lot of incorrect news by quoting Saudi media experts.”
The sports journalist challenged “everyone” that the days will prove that the news about Qalaa Al-Alami’s participation in the European Champions League is false and incorrect.
Notably, the European Football Association has repeatedly denied the participation of Saudi clubs in its continental competitions, with Saudi Football Association President Yasser Al Meshal confirming that the idea has not been discussed – yet – despite his admission that he would not delay… Something that will serve the interests of the Kingdom’s teams.
Al Nasr top their Asian group, qualifying for the quarter-finals of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques Cup and finishing second in the Saudi Pro League Roshan League table.
