Aguero warns Manchester City about Haaland and says only Messi can win titles alone

Erling Haaland needs the support of his Manchester City teammates to win the Premier League title, says Sergio Aguero, who believes only Lionel Messi can lead the team to great honors alone.

Haaland scored 25 goals in the Premier League season, scoring a hat-trick as City thrashed Wolves 3-0 in their last match of the competition.

The Norwegian’s fourth treble in the Premier League saw him surpass last season’s Golden Boot winners Mohamed Salah and Son Heung-min of 23 goals with 18 games remaining in the campaign.

Despite Haaland’s exploits, Pep Guardiola is five points behind league leaders Arsenal with an extra leg, with City great Aguero saying the striker can’t do it alone.

Asked if Haaland could inspire City to a fifth league title in six seasons, Aguero told Stake.com: “We’ve yet to see that.

“There is still a lot of time ahead of the season. Haaland, who is gaining record numbers, will play an important role in this.

“Anyway, other than Leo, there is not a single player who can win the league on his own.

“It’s about the team and City have a very talented squad and exceptional staff. They presented a lot of proof of their high status and you know they will fight to the very end.”

While City have so far struggled to keep up with Arsenal this season, five-time Premier League winner Aguero remains confident that Guardiola’s men can break the Gunners’ lead.

“I wouldn’t say Man City don’t play. The Premier League is the most competitive league,” he continued.

“It’s completely normal to see the best contenders get reinforced and return to their historical standards.

City have won four of the last five Premier League titles. They are still in the fight and this must be acknowledged. [They are] crouching from a second position, ready to strike. Anything can happen.”

City will travel to Arsenal for the duo’s first meeting of the season on 15 February, after facing Tottenham and Aston Villa in the next two matches.
