Al Duhail have snatched a spot in the AFC Champions League quarter-finals from Al Rayyan by beating them on penalties (7-6) in the Qatari derby that brought them together tonight.
Al Duhail moved forward with a goal from fellow player Khaled Mohamed Saleh in the second minute to start the second extra half.
French midfielder Steven Nzonzi snatched Al Rayyan’s equalizer at a fateful moment as the match’s second half of extra time was on its last breath at Al Tumama Stadium in the capital Doha.
Al-Duhail was able to decide the match in his favor in a penalty shoot-out with seven goals to six.
It is noteworthy that the draw for the quarter-finals of the Champions League, for West Asian teams, will take place next Tuesday, after the completion of the 1/8 finals tomorrow, on Monday.
