AC Milan have denied any problems in ongoing talks with Rafael Leao regarding a new contract following Tuesday’s reports.
In Italy, it was reported that negotiations between the Portuguese national team player and the club about a new deal were interrupted.
Leao’s contract with San Siro expires in 2024, and it was stated that the player’s entourage wanted to significantly reduce his release clause.
However, AC Milan have denied that there was any hiccup and insist that discussions will continue.
“With regard to the article published today in the newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport entitled ‘Complete break of Milan’s Leao’, Milan would like to clarify that negotiations with Rafael Leao have not been interrupted,” the club said in a statement.
“The journalistic narrative about the alleged freeze between the parties is not only completely unfounded, but also harmful to the club and its player.
Milan is actually continuing the dialogue with Leao and his entourage in a calm and professional atmosphere.”
Several clubs are showing interest in Leao, including the Premier League trio of Manchester City, Arsenal and Chelsea.
